Xuepei Hou is a Brooklyn-based director and cinematographer. She started her career in Beijing working as a documentarian, where she learned to capture moments intuitively. She loves observing people and capturing the sides of individuals often overlooked. Finding the music in the visuals and the heart in every story has always been her purpose in filmmaking. In 2022, she moved to New York and turned her focus to narrative storytelling and was accepted into the Stony Brook University MFA film program, studying under Christine Vachon of Killer Films. Xuepei’s work has garnered numerous accolades on the film festival circuit. Most recently, she received the best cinematography award at New York City’s Chain Film Festival. This summer she wrapped principal photography on Miles Away, a feature film written and directed by Michael Lavine. Her imagery is vulnerable and bold; she believes that through the lens we can see a different world – and find truth in ourselves.
